Scientific Communications officer with visual communication skills

The INCF seeks to enhance its Secretariat team with 1-2 talented and highly motivated individuals.

Job description

Main responsibilities will include planning, researching and writing a variety of materials for web, print and scientific publications; layout and production of printed material; communicating on the behalf of INCF in social media and organizing the INCF presence at international scientific meetings (2-4 per year).

The position is full-time. The work includes a fair amount of international travel and irregular working hours (evenings and weekends). The position is temporary, tentatively from May 1, 2012 to May 1, 2013, with a possibility for prolongation.


The successful candidate should have a strong visual sense and be adept at translating complex scientific concepts into easily understood visuals and texts.

The candidate must be a creative individual and able to deliver excellent work on short deadlines as well as handle complex long-term projects and multiple conflicting deadlines. The candidate should be comfortable working independently and in collaboration with others.

Required skills:

  • University degree in communication, including graphic design
  • fluency in spoken and written English
  • solid experience of layout , illustration and graphical design using the Adobe Creative Suite
  • experience from print production, including color management
  • ability to work with 2D as well as 3D graphical design
  • experience with science writing, marketing, news media and social media
  • working knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • ability to manage a budget

Desired skills:

  • experience storyboarding animations or short scientific film production
  • background in some aspect of neuroscience
  • experience from a research environment in neuroscience or similar
  • experience from scientific communication
  • documented skills in translating complex scientific questions to popular text
